About Homeopathy

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine, and has been in use for nearly 200 years. People suffering from all kinds of illnesses have been helped t regain their health.

Homeopathy understands that the human body is a highly evolved, intelligent system and that symptoms of illness reflect the body's natural efforts to protect and heal itself. The Homeopath is guided by the symptoms when selecting an appropriate remedy and in this way Homeopathic treatment helps to stimulate the body's own self healing powers.

Homeopathy embraces a holistic approach to health and offers an opportunity not only to relieve symptoms but also to increase the persons overall level of health and well-being.

What are remedies?

The remedies are derived from a variety of natural substances and repeatedly diluted in a specific way until the crude substance is refined to a highly dynamic state. Experience has shown that such poetised substances have the potential to influence the body's systems in a powerful and effective manor.

Is Homeopathy safe?

t is the body's energy which is influenced rather that its chemical balance, so the Homeopathic remedies do not have side effects. Non the less, experience has shown that well selected remedies are capable of stimulating the body's reactive forces powerfully and high potency remedies should be treated with respect.

For some acute ailments it is possible to self treat, but for more serious acute or chronic complaints. It is recommended that a qualified homeopath is consulted.

Homeopathic remedies can be safely used alongside any drugs prescribed by your GP or consultant.

What should I expect?

The first consultation will take approximately one hour and the Homeopath will want to know all about your presenting complaint. However, he will want to explore other areas such as your likes and dislikes, the things that bother or upset you, and the events in your life that have made you the person you are today. This together with your full health history and that of your family's is important information used in the selection of the appropriate remedy.

How long does treatment take?

This depends very much on what sort of illness you have, as well as the other individual characteristics of your case. So it is not realistic for your homeopath to asses this until it can be seen how you respond to the remedies prescribed over some time. It is possible to say that a slowly developing complaint, or one that has been experienced for some years, will not disappear immediately and some improvements quite soon. Other acute complaints may get better more quickly.

Homeopathy cures from the inside and often outer symptoms are the last to clear. Be patient! In the long term it is much better for you to cured of both the cause of your illness and its symptoms, rather than merely relieving or suppressing the symptoms. Remember that every case is different and that no two patients are alike.
